اظهرت الدراسة الصخرية عائدية ترسبات الاوليجوسين الى تكويني بلني و تارجيل في المقطع السطحى قرب مدينة سنجار شمال غرب العراق.
تمثلت ترسبات تكوين بلاني بسحنة دقيقة واحدة اعتبرت مقطعا مضغوطا (condensed section) لفترة الاوليجوسين المبكر وهي تشير الى ترسبات الرصيف الخارجى.
اما تكوين تارجيل، فقد ضم ثلاث سحنات دقيقة امتدت بيئاتها الترسيبية من الرصيف الاوسط حتى الباثيال الاوسط.
اظهر تحليل الطباقية التتابعية وجود خمسة تتابعات، أربعة من المرتبة الثالثة وواحدة من المرتبة الرابعة.
تم تمييز فترتي برودة خلال الاوليجوسين الاوسط ضمن المدى الزمني (31.5-33.0) مليون سنة و (29.5-30.5) مليون سنة، و التي اظهرت توافقا مع المناخ العالمي في هذه الأزمنة.
Abstract EN
Lithoiogical study of Oligocene carbonate exposure near Sinjar City northwestern Iraq indicates its affiliation to Palani and Tarjil Formations.
One microfacies characterizes the condensed section of Palani Formation (Early Oligocene), attributed to outer shelf environment.
Three microfacies were distinguished throughout Tarjil Formation, their depositional environments ranging from middle shelf to middle bathyal zones.
Sequence stratigraphie analysis delineated five sequences, four of them are of 3rd order and one of 4th order.
Two cooling events are inferred during the Middle Oligocene, corresponding to global cooling and sea-level fluctuations.
