English Abstract

The present work was carried out in two stages.

The first stage is concerned with effect of mechanical and physical properties on the two groups of ternary polymer blend composites, the first group was prepared according to the formula [84%LLDPE:15%((100-X)%PP:X%PVP):1%B.P] with weight ratios selected for X values (0, 4%, 8%, 12% and 16% ).

The second group was prepared with replacing the weight ratios for each of the LLDPE and PP according to formula [84% PP : 15% ((100-X)%LLDPE:X%PVP:1%B.P] and with the same X values.

The properties of the two groups of composite were studied the optimum group is represented by the second group and depending on this, the third group was prepared along the lines of the second group but HDPE was used instead of LLDPE and then the mechanical, physical and morphological properties of all samples prepared were studied.

The results shows all the mechanical properties (tensile, compression, flexural, impact, hardness and creep) increase with increased PVP ratio for three groups except elongation property recorded decrement for three groups, while physical properties included density, thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal diffusivity, density decreases with increased PVP ratio for all three groups and the minimum density recorded in the second group due represent highest weight ratio of the polypropylene material which has minimum density between three component studied in the research.

On the other hand thermal diffusivity decreases with increased PVP ratio to reach minimum value at 8%PVP, whereas specific heat increases with increased PVP ratio to reach maximum value at 8%PVP for first and second groups.

Thermal conductivity increases with increased PVP ratio for all samples studied.

SEM photos show the addition of PVP to the polymer blend composites gives better mechanical properties because of the apparent stronger interaction between the different components of the blend and composites.
