English Abstract

Suburban water demand is escalating as the world population is increasing and more urbanization is taking place worldwide, global warming is another factor affecting water scarcity.

On the other hand, there are limited water resources available, increasing competitions over different water uses and interests (domestic, agricultural, industrial, tourist and environmental).

Iraq, as a country situated in the arid-semi arid zone, has the longest and proudest history of agriculture and irrigation in the region.

Unfortunately, over the past decade of water scarcity period, the water resources being suffering of a very difficult situation, as amount of available water resources is declining because of decreasing water inflow and improper irrigation system.

In this thesis, a study for water harvesting and developing of an irrigation system for Badra area, within Wassit Province, has been investigated.

Irrigation water requirement information that is needed in all aspects of irrigation design was computed by using CROPWAT model.

The new configuration of irrigation system layout has been designed by using EPANET program for modeling such irrigation network together with implementing drip and sprinkler irrigation system, as for water conservation due limited water availability in Badra area.
