English Abstract

Every manufacturing process has variation associated with it.

Since this variation can never be totally eliminated, it must be minimized to improve product quality.

Process capability is a tool for measuring the ability of process to meet the required specification.

Process capability evaluation and analysis deal with the techniques that are used to understand the variability of a process and its effect on the quality of produced product.

Performing process capability analysis can be useful as a tool for manufacturing industries to reduce scrap and rework in their productions.

Hence, process capability enhancement is essential for manufacturing organization that struggles to be competitive by improving the quality of its products and decreasing the cost of these products.

From this point of view, the researcher believes that process capability can be enhanced effectively when the proper and suitable statistical techniques are applied to detect the variation in the process and seek to minimize it if possible.

Therefore, in this thesis a deep and comprehensive study on statistical techniques and process capability indices has been carried out.

On the basis of this study approach has been presented.

This approach involves a sequential procedure for implementing the proper and suitable statistical techniques for evaluation and analysis then to enhance process capability.

This approach takes in consideration the stability of the process under study to prevent obtaining misleading results, furthermore it is applicable in both cases; when process data are normally and non-normally distributed data.

This approach involves comparison between (Cp&Cpk) values and (Cp&Cpm) values to indicate the process dispersion, shift and direction process mean from target value.

A practical application for this approach has been conducted in the (State Company for Electrical Industries) and particularly to (Water Pump) factory.

This application shows a good result in improving the levels of process capabilities for three characteristics under study.

The levels of PCIs for these characteristics are increased in different degrees depending on the corrective actions applied to avoid the root causes.

Minitab 16 Software is used to reduce long calculations for some values or to plot chart.
