Types of blood groups and their relation to hearing loss in healthy students of basra medical college

ABO is the most important blood group system in transfusion medicine and transplantation immunology.

Hearing loss may be temporary or permanent.

Temporary hearing losses are almost always conductive and are far more common than permanent hearing losses.

Objectives : This prospective study aimed to investigate the relation of the types blood groups with hearing thresholds of healthy student in Basra medical college.

Material and methods : 100 male volunteers with different blood group types aged between 18-22 years and all of them are students in Basrah medical college, they were tested for pure tone using air conduction test audiometer.

Each blood group was subdivided into eight subgroups according to their frequency .

Results : we did not find any statistical significance differences between the types of blood groups with the respect of HL in (p < 0.05).

A significant correlation between hearing loss and Rh blood groups has been discovered.
