الربط ضروري في اللغة الانكليزية سواء كلاما أو كتابة فالمتحدثون و الكتاب يستخدمون أنواعا من أدوات الربط لكي يوضحوا العلاقات بين الأفكار.
يكون النص المترابط بعدة طرق مختلفة.
في كتاب (الترابط في اللغة الانكليزية) وضع هاليدي ورقية حسن خمسة أنواع لأدوات الربط من شأنها إيجاد الترابط في النصوص : الإشارة و الحذف و الإبدال و الربط اللغوي و الارتباط.
تستخدم أدوات الربط لتوضيح المعنى و التعبير عنه بإيجاز.
