Abstract EN

This paper attempts to study the relationship between the Journalistic design and the readability of the Sudanese press, according to psychological and Physiological aspects.

The effect of the page design on its readability from several choices, and how does the Sudanese press use the typographic elements and the attitude of the readers towards those elements and the way they are used.

The paper studies the readability through the approaches of (Selective Processes) and (Uses and Gratifications), also the questionnaire and interviews are used to collect data.

The paper arrived at several findings that could be summed up in : (The readers expose to the press selectively, and the good design increases the readability of the newspaper.

Also it appeared that the first page is the most important one and it is a main entrance to the other inner pages.

The research has found out that, the coloured horizontal structure attracts readers more than the vertical black and white structure, and the over use of typographic elements gives the paper popularity.

The most important recommendations are : (obtaining the modern design techniques and the continuous training of the personnel, improving the quality of paper and the martial components to cope with requirements of the best design.
