English Abstract

The faculty of medicine in Gharian, Arab Libyan Jamahiriya has been established since 1999 in Gharian city located 80 Km Southwest from Tripoli the capital of Great Libyan Jamahiriya to serve the people of Aljabal Algharby province.

Quality assurance programs have been going on since 2007 and great efforts have been done in the last three years including the application of both administrative abilities and educational effectiveness standards approved by the quality assurance center in the great Libyan Jamahiriya Administrative abilities standards including vision, mission, and objectives of the faculty besides strategic planning, jobs description, and fair regulation rules were applied.

Also, educational effectiveness standards including students, staff members, courses, teaching and learning facilities were achieved.

Our aim is to present efforts to achieve quality Standards towards accreditation at Faculty of Medicine in Gharian, Arab Libyan Jamahiriya.

A cross sectional study was carried out from April, 2010 to July, 2010 using simple random sample technique to measure under graduate student’s satisfaction after applying quality assurance standards for the under graduate program.

Questionnaires were designed to assess variables in both educational and administrative aspects.

Ophthalmology department comes with the highest score among educational departments with 100% giving excellent and registration department comes with the highest score among dministrative departments with 50% giving excellent, 35.7% giving very good, 11.2% giving good, and 3.1% giving accepted.

It was evident that application of quality standards enabled the faculty of medicine in Gharian, Arab Libyan Jamahiriya, to achieve a broad vision, clear mission, and team spirit that improved administrative abilities besides outcome based education and objective evaluation that ensured educational effectiveness.
