English Abstract
A quality assurance system has been established in Arabic Language Institute (ALI), King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Arabia.
The system is derived from the King Saud University's – Quality Management System (KSU-QMS) which is built on the bases of Approach (A), Deployment (D), Learning (L) and Integration (I).
The instruments and tools necessary to apply the system have been designed and tested.
The important tools consist of questionnaires, data based on reports and documents, interviews and workshops, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks.
The questionnaires and the workshops have targeted all ALI internal and external stakeholders.
The application of the quality system include setting specifications of and reporting on academic programs and courses, training and orientation of faculty, staff and students, peer reviewing of academic affairs, and self-study assessment.
The self-study assessment has been conducted based on the quality standards and criteria of the KSU-QMS and National Commission for Assessment and Academic Accreditation (NCAAA).
The evaluation of the academic, research, management and community services affairs has revealed several points of strength and weaknesses which have been used to develop a well-structured strategic plan for improvement.
The strategic plan for improvement focuses on inputs and processes which is expected to lead to a high level of outputs.
The lessons learnt are documented to be used for future enhancement, and, thus, achieve Learning concept (L) of the KSU-QMS.
