تهدف الدراسة الحالية للتحقق من مدى استخدام الترجمة في تعليم مفردات اللغة الإنجليزية من وجهة نظر المدرسين و الطلاب في مدارس المرحلة الثانوية الحكومية في منطقتي عمان الأولى و الثالثة.
تألفت عينة الدراسة من مائتي طالب و عشرين مدرسا تم اختيارهم بالطريقة العشوائية من مدارس المرحلة الثانوية الحكومية في مديريتي التربية الأولى و الثالثة في عمان.
يلقي الفصل الأول الضوء على مشكلة الدراسة و عناصرها و أهميتها و من ثم يعرف المصطلحات و أخيرا يورد محددات الدراسة.
أما الفصل الثاني فيعطي شرحا و توضيحا عن استخدام الترجمة من وجهة نظر أكثر طرق التدريس شيوعا بالإضافة إلى مواقف كثير من العلماء و التربويين تجاه استخدام الترجمة في حصص اللغة الإنجليزية و الدراسات السابقة التي ناقشت هذه المسألة.
و يوضح الفصل الثالث الخطوات التي اتخذت لتصميم و تنفيذ هذه الدراسة.
أما الفصل الرابع فيظهر نتائج الدراسة باستخدام النسب المئوية و التكرارات.
و أخيرا يناقش الفصل الخامس نتائج الدراسة و الاستنتاجات ثم التوصيات و المقترحات لدراسات أخرى.
و قد عكست النتائج الرئيسية للدراسة ما يلي : 1.
أن الغالبية العظمى من المدرسين يستخدمون اللغة العربية في حصص اللغة الإنجليزية.
2.
إن معظم المدرسين يستخدمون اللغة العربية لشرح معاني المفردات الجديدة و الصعبة، و لدرجة أقل لأغراض أخرى، كشرح المسائل النحوية، و توضيح نصوص القراءة التي يصعب على الطلبة فهمها، و كذلك إجابة بعض أسئلة الاستيعاب.
English Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate the use of translation in teaching English vocabulary from the teachers and students perspectives in the Public Secondary Schools in the first and third directorates of Education in Amman.
A sample of 200 students and 20 teachers was randomly selected from different public secondary schools for the purpose of the investigation.
Relevant data were collected by means of two questionnaires, namely, Student Questionnaire and Teacher Questionnaire.
Chapter One highlights the statement of the problem, elements of the study, significance of the study, definition of terms, and limitations of the study.
Chapter Two gives detailed accounts of the place given to the use of translation by different teaching methods and approaches, in addition to an account of the attitudes of a variety of scholars towards the use of translation in the foreign language classroom, and the previous studies in the field.
Chapter Three explains the steps taken in designing and implementing the field study and in constructing the study instruments.
Chapter Four presents the results of the study in terms of the descriptive statistics: frequencies and percentages.
Chapter Five discusses the findings of the study, conclusions and recommendations, in addition to suggestions for further study.
The main findings of the study were as follows: 1.
The vast majority of teachers use Arabic in their English classroom.
2.
Most of the teachers use Arabic to explain new and difficult items, and to lesser degrees for other purposes, such as explaining certain grammatical points, explaining reading passages, conducting part of classroom discussion on TEFL subjects, and answering comprehension questions which they can not answer in English.
