Arabic Abstract

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى استقصاء اتجاهات طلبة المرحلة الأساسية العليا في الأردن نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية في ضوء متغيري الصف الدراسي و الجنس، و ذلك من خلال الإجابة عن الأسئلة التالية : 1- ما اتجاهات طلبة الصفين السابع و العاشر الأساسيين في المدارس الحكومية الأردنية نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية ؟ 2- هل هناك فروق ذات دلالة بين اتجاهات طلبة المدارس الحكومية الأردنية نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية تعزى لمتغير الصف الدراسي ؟ 3- هل هناك فروق ذات دلالة بين اتجاهات طلبة المدارس الحكومية الأردنية نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية تعزى لمتغير الجنس ؟ 4- هل هناك أثر ذو دلالة في اتجاهات الطلبة يعزى للتفاعل بين متغيري الصف الدراسي و الجنس ؟ أعدت الباحثة استبانة لقياس اتجاهات الطلبة نحو القراءة.

و تضمنت الاستبانة (51) فقرة توزعت على أربعة مجالات و هي : قدرات الطلبة (9) فقرات ؛ و مشاعر الطلبة (15) فقرة ؛ و أساليب التعليم (20) فقرة ؛ و دور المنهج المدرسي (7) فقرات.

و تم توزيع الاستبانة على عينة من (563) طالبا و طالبة من طلبة الصفين السابع و العاشر الأساسيين، حيث تم اختيارهم بالطريقة العشوائية.

كشفت النتائج عما يلي : 1- لدى الطلبة اتجاهات حيادية نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية.

2- حل مجال اتجاهات الطلبة في المرتبة الأولى ؛ و أساليب التعليم التي يستخدمها المعلم في المرتبة الثانية، و حل المنهج في المرتبة الثالثة ؛ بينما حل في المرتبة الأخيرة مجال مشاعر الطلبة نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية.

3- لم تظهر أية فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في المجال الرابع و هو "دور المنهج"، و لكن كانت هناك فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند بقية مجالات الدراسة تعزى لمتغير الجنس، لصالح تقديرات الإناث.

4- لم توجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين تقديرات أفراد العينة في ما يخص المجال الثاني "مشاعر الطلبة" و المجال الرابع "دور المنهج"، بينما كانت هناك فروق دالة إحصائيا بين تقديراتهم على بقية مجالات الدراسة تعزى لمتغير الصف الدراسي، و ذلك لصالح طلبة الصف العاشر.

5- وحدت فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين اتجاهات الطلبة نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية تعزى لمتغير الجنس و متغير الصف الدراسي عند جميع المجالات ما عدا المجال الثاني "مشاعر الطلبة" ؛ و قد كانت الفروق تعزى لمتغير الصف الدراسي فقط، و عند المجال الرابع "دور المنهج" تعزى لمتغير الجنس و كذلك للصف الدراسي، بينما لم يكن هناك أي فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين اتجاهات الطلبة نحو القراءة باللغة الإنجليزية تعزى لتفاعل متغيري الصف الدراسي و الجنس.

English Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the Jordanian students' attitudes towards reading in English in the upper basic stage in light of their grade level and gender through answering the following questions: 1.

What are the attitudes of 7th and 10th grade students in Jordanian public schools towards English reading? 2.

Are there any differences among Jordanian public schools 7th and 10th grade students’ attitudes towards English reading due to their gender? 3.

Are there any differences among Jordanian public schools 7th and 10th grade students’ attitudes towards English reading due to their grade level (7 th, 10 th)? 4.

Is there an interaction between students' attitudes towards English reading due to their grade level and gender? To achieve the study aims, the researcher designed a questionnaire to measure the students' attitudes towards reading.

This questionnaire includes four domains having (51) items: Students' attitudes domain which includes (9) items; Students' feelings domain which includes (15) items; Techniques of teaching domain which includes (20) items; and Curriculum role domain which includes (7) items.

The questionnaire was distributed to a sample of (563) students from the seventh and tenth grade sections, which were chosen randomly.

The results revealed that:- 1.

Students had neutral attitudes towards English reading.

2.

Students' abilities ranked first, teachers' techniques ranked second, curriculum role ranked third, while students' feelings ranked the last.

3.

There were no significant differences between the means of the students’ responses on the fourth domain "Curriculum Role", while there were significant differences between the means of the participants' responses on the rest of the domains of the study in favor of females.

4.

There were no significant differences between the means of the participants' responses on the second domain "Students' Feelings" and the fourth domain "Curriculum Role", while there were significant differences between the means of the participants' responses on the rest of the domains of the study in favor of the 10 th grade.

5.

There were significant differences between the means of the students’ attitudes towards English reading due to their gender and grade at all the domains except the second domain "Students' Feelings" due to the grade, and the fourth domain "Curriculum Role" due to gender and grade.

While there were no significant differences between the means of the students’ attitudes towards English reading due to the interactions.
