Arabic Abstract

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من العلاقة بين اللغة الأولى و الثانية و فيما إذا كانت الكفاءة في أداء مهارة الكتابة في اللغة الأم (العربية) لدى طلاب المرحلة الثانوية في الأردن لها علاقة بإنجازهم لتلك المهارة في اللغة الإنجليزية (كلغة أجنبية).

لقد تم التوصل إلى معرفة هذه العلاقة باستخدام تحليل "بيرسون" لنتائج الاختبارات الإنشائية (العربية و الإنجليزية) من أجل معرفة فيما إذا كان هناك علاقة أم لا و لتأكيد الثبات استخدم تحليل "كرمباخ ألفا".

الطلاب اللذين أجريت عليهم الدراسة هم طلاب الصف الثاني ثانوي و عددهم 20 طالبا مما يعني أن أعمارهم تتراوح بين 17 و 18.

اختير الطلاب بناء على مستواهم المتوسط في اللغة الإنجليزية و كذلك تحصيلهم في السنوات السابقة و ذلك بالرجوع لسجلاتهم الدراسية في السنوات السابقة و زيادة في التأكيد و لمعرفة المستوى المطلوب للدراسة طلب الباحث من الطلاب كتابة فقرة عن أنفسهم للوقوف على المستوى المطلوب للدراسة (كاختبار قبلي) و قد كان هناك عدد من الأساتذة المتطوعين ذوي خبرة لا تقل عن 10 سنوات في التدريس و تصحيح أوراق الثانوية العامة أجري اختبارين كتابيين (لموضوعين مختلفي العناوين) أحدهما باللغة العربية و الآخر باللغة الإنجليزية على نفس عينة الدراسة.

حاولت الدراسة الإجابة عن الأسئلة التالية : 1- هل هناك علاقة بين الأداء الكتابي في اللغة الثانية (الإنجليزية) من جهة و بين الكفاءة الكتابية في اللغة العربية و التمكن اللغوي في اللغة العربية من جهة أخرى لدى طلاب الصف الثاني ثانوي في الأردن ؟ 2- ما هي العوامل اللغوية و غير اللغوية التي يمكن أن تؤثر على الإنجاز الكتابي في اللغة الإنجليزية لدى طلاب الصف الثاني ثانوي ؟ كانت نتائج الدراسة كما يلي : 1- بينت درجات الطلاب وجود علاقة بين مستوى الإتقان في اللغة العربية و تحصيل الطلبة بحيث وصلت العلاقة إلى درجة 0.581 وفقا لتحليل بيرسون و درجة الثبات وفقا لتحليل "كرمباخ ألفا" كانت (0.7349).

2- بمراجعة درجات الطلاب تبين أن الطلاب اللذين حصلوا على درجات عالية في اللغة الإنجليزية حصلوا على درجات مقاربة لها في اللغة العربية.

3- دلت إجابات الطلبة في الاستبانة الموزعة على وجود عوامل لغوية و غير لغوية يمكن أن تساهم بشكل مباشر أو غير مباشر على الأداء الجيد للطلاب.

و من هذه العوامل الخلفية اللغوية الإنجليزية الجيدة، العامل النفسي كعامل غير لغوي كتحفيز الطلبة على الكتابة، و كذلك أظهرت الاستبانة أهمية النشاطات اللامنهجية في زيادة التحصيل.

اتخذ عدد من التوصيات و منها التشجيع على المزيد من البحث العلمي في موضوع الدراسة و كذلك نوقشت الأمور الضمنية في الدراسة.

English Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the relationship between first language (Arabic) Proficiency and second language (English) performance in the writing skills of second secondary school students ( twelfth grade) .The objective was achieved by analyzing the results of the students' writing in the two composition prompt tests applied to the students.

Pearson's analysis was used in this test to find out if there was a significant relationship between the two tests' results.

Chrombach "Alpha " analysis was also used for the validity of the tests' results .

The subjects of the study consisted of 20 male students which meant that they were aged between 17 to 18 years old.

The students were chosen on the basis of their achievement in the previous years as registered in their records.

The researcher asked the students to write a short paragraph ,as a pre test, about themselves to verify their levels.

The researcher's volunteer teachers were school members with 10 year-minimum experience in teaching English for secondary school students and correcting the papers of General Secondary Exams.

For the credibility of the study, it is fair to mention that four subjects' results, who got zero score, were excluded in order to have an accurate correlation analysis.

There were two composition prompt tests in the study.

The first test measured the degree of proficiency in Arabic writing and the second test measured the students' performance in the L2 (English) writing .

The study attempted to answer the following questions: 1) Is there a relationship between the writing performance and competence in L2 (English) and the Proficiency in L1 (Arabic) among Jordanian second secondary school students in Jordan? 2) What are the linguistic and non-linguistic factors that might affect Jordanian second secondary class students' performance in L2 writing skill? The results of the study revealed a significant relationship between the students' proficiency in Arabic writing and English writing, (r) = (0.581) and the validity according to Chrombach "Alpa" analysis was (0.7349).

The students' answers to the questionnaire revealed that there were linguistic factors (vocabulary repertoire and structure comprehensibility) and non-linguistic factors (such as non-curricular activities and motivation) .Recommendations for further research were made and the implications of the study were discussed.
