Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Material: This work included 2 samples of patients and controls, the first one comprised 71 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 45 healthy control persons and the second one comprised 72 RA patients and 60 control persons.
Methods: Patients were divided into two subgroups according to their age of onset, and then each group was divided into two subgroups according to the activity and remission of the disease.
Two-step microcytotoxicity test was used for typing of HLA antigen (HLA - Class 1 and DR) of patients and controls.
Results: Our work showed a significantly increased frequency of HLA - DR4 among RA patients.
In the first sample the frequency of HLA - DR4 in adult rheumatoid arthritis (ARA) was (44% VS 15.9%) with relative risk of 3.311.
In juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) it was (56.3% VS 15.9%) with relative risk of 5.464.
The results also showed a high frequency of HLA - B 27 (50% VS 4.7%) in JRA with relative risk 20.11.
In the second sample the frequency in ARA was (68.7% VS 20.81%) and in JRA (62.5% VS 20.8%) with relative risk 8.4 and 6.4 respectively.
The frequency of HLA-B27 was (37.5 VS 7.4%) in JRA with relative risk 12.1%.
