English Abstract

The university environment is a Data-Driven institution and part of it is the student information system that had been collecting data regarding student absence, performance, and overall success.

Data are also often collected concerning courses sections and courses categories, this data were collected using transactional databases, the huge amount of historically collected data were used for transactional purposes but it never been a concern to analyze students data.

This thesis developed a university student information system using a data warehouse for the purpose of analysis and forecasting.

The developed system extracted the students data from two Jordanian private universities databases.

In the extraction process the implemented system imported the data from its sources and transformed the data into unified representations, checked integrity constraints, sorted the data, and loaded the transformed data into a staging database which contains tables related to student academic achievement.

After loading the staging database the dimensional model is applied which uses the star schema design , the star schema of the university data warehouse consists of a single fact table and five dimensions that are Students dimension ,courses dimension, majors dimension, semesters dimension, and university dimension.

Then the data warehouse dimensions and the fact table are loaded with students data, and then the results of the data warehouse were used for data cubing process in which the data can be viewed from multidimensional perspectives; finally the aggregated results from the cube are used for forecasting the students’ academic achievement for the next semester.
