English Abstract

-The unauthorized use and manipulation of digitized media have created an urgent need to copyright enforcement technologies that can protect copyright ownership and repository of multimedia objects.

One of these technologies is digital image watermarking.

There have been different digital image watermarking methods based on wavelet domain such as Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), combined Discrete Wavelet Transform and Discrete Cosine Transform (DWT_DCT), combined Discrete Wavelet Transform and Singular Value Decomposition (DWT_SVD), Redundant Discrete Wavelet Transform (RDWT), combined Redundant Discrete Wavelet Transform and Singular Value Decomposition (RDWT_SVD), and Contourlet.

In this thesis a new method is proposed for digital image watermarking suggesting the combination of RDWT and Contourlet (CT_RDWT/RDWT_CT).

It is expected from this combination to cover multi-scale, time-frequency, localization, shift invariance of RDWT and offers directionality and anisotropy supported by CT that will lead to improve resistance to most of the attacks, and protect copyright and repository.

For all methods, two-level decomposition is applied to the host image, and one-level decomposition is applied to the watermark image.

Embedding the two high frequency midbands in the two high frequency midbands of the host is tested, and then best is chosen for watermarking, watermarked image is exposed to different types of attacks, PSNR value which represents imperceptibility and CORR value which represent robustness are calculated before and after attacks.

Results are reported and conclusions are attained, this is done using set of tools such as: Image Processing ToolBox in Matlab application, Contourlet Toolbox, Set of testing images, Attack methods, Watermarking algorithm.

Results showed that the combination CT_RDWT is better than the combination RDWT_CT.

The proposed technique showed good results in resisting some attacks, but still there are some other methods that showed better results.
