Comparative study between different formulas for IQL power calculation

Abstract EN

Purpose: To compare between the predictability of different IOL power calculation formulas and to determine the most accurate formula for each axial length group (short, average and long).

Materials and methods: The study was carried on 50 eyes in 50 patients with age related cataract, they were divided into 3 groups according to the axial length, the predictive accuracy of 12 IOL power calculation formulas was compared.

Results: In short axial length group, Hoffer Q formula had the least error which was (MAE=0.08 D, P^0.082), in long axial length group, SRKJThadthe least error (MAE= 0.70 D, P'=0.028), while little difference was found between them in the average axial length group.

Conclusion: This study recommends the use of SRKII formula in calculating the IOL power in average axial length eyes and SRK/T formula for long eyes and Hoffer Q formula for short eyes.
