Abstract EN
The validity of random urinary protein/creatinine index I PC I) as an alternative to 24 lir urinary protein excretion (P24) was assessed in 125 healthy subjects and 125 patients with wide range of proteinuria.
Significant relations between all PC indices and P24 in both groups I and 2 ( r = 0.483 - 0.889, /’ < 0.001) were obtained.
Moreover, high degrees of sensitivity and specificity (90-98%), predictability (81-99%) and efficiency (90-96%) were observed at cut-off levels of 0.2, 1.0, and 3.5 g/g (for random specimens) and g/24hr/1.73m2 (for timed specimen).
The longitudinal follow-up study performed on eight proteinuric patients revealed that both random PCI and daily urine protein excretion run in parallel regardless of their renal function and degree of proteinuria.
It is therefore, suggested that this PCI in a random urine specimen could replace timed collection particularly for screening and follow-up purposes.
