Abstract EN
Using an ELISA test, sixty women with lierpes-like genital lesions were studied and compared with sixty healthy women to detect the frequency ofHSV-1 and 2 infection in Mosul ( North of Iraq ).
Infection was diagnosed by noting rising titers of antibodies in paired blood samples and estimating the predominant antibody type.
In women with genital lesions IISV-I and HSV-2 infections were detected in rates of 10% (6 out of 60) and 66.7% (40 out of 60) respectively.
The detected rate ofHSV-2 infection in this study was high.
The rate ofHSV-1 infection was also surprising and might be attributed to changes in sexual practice.
