Abstract EN
Forty seven post menopausal osteoporotic females were included in our study.
Patients were classified into 3 groups, group I received hormonal treatment in the form of intranasal salmon calcitonin in a dose of 200 Ill/every other day for 3 months, group II received the same medical treatment in addition to exercise program, and group III received only exercises program.
The three groups of patients were reassessed after three months on clinical and radiological basis, to evaluate the role of quantitative computed tomography in reflecting changes in bone mineral density after hormonal treatment, physical therapy, and combined regimen.
Also, to compare the efficacy of intranasal salmon calcitonin versus exercise and their synergistic effect.
The three groups showed clinical improvement concerning pain and back movements.
Regarding pain, the improvement was statistically significant in groups I and II, but not in the third group.
Also, the three groups showed a statistically significant improvement in their back movements.
There was increment in the bone mineral density in the three studied groups, which was highly significant in groups I and 2, but not in the third group.
The maximum percentage of bone increment was in the second group denoting the positive synergistic effect of exercise to hormonal treatment.
