Primary immunodeficiency states are amongst the puzzling clinical entities that come to the attention of pediatricians and genera! practitioners.

However, the majority of these conditions can he identified easily and diagnosed with the help of a systematic approach and the readily available diagnostic tests.

In this review some practical guidelines are presented to help non-immunologists to identify quickly the majority of primary immunodeficiencies at a low cost to the health system.
