Myelomeingocele (MMC) is the commonest congenital malformation of the central nervous system.
Usually it is associated with other anomalies, mainly hydrocephalus, lower limbs deformities and sphincters incontinence.
It affects patient's life mentally, physically, emotionally and socially.
There are wide geographic and racial differences in the incidence.
The highest is being in Ireland and the lowest in Japan1*.
There is no doubt about genetic causes.
Environmental factors also play a role.
It is more prevalent in lower social group 'sa>.
This study was conducted retrospectively, to find: a) Incidence of MMC in Qatar, b) Prevalence of seizures in-patients with MMC.
