Abstract EN
Retrospective analysis of data collected from hospital records was used to review maternal morbidity and neonatal morbidity and mortality associated with twin pregnancies to determine the incidence and the impact of assisted conception technique on twins in the Women's Hospital, Doha, Qatar, and finally, to make recommendations which will improve quality of care of multiple pregnancy.
One Hundred and forty seven twin pregnancies with birth weight of >500 gram comprising 1.46% of total 10092 pregnancies, were delivered during the year 1995.
Obstetrical complications were found to be high and there was a proportionate increase in neonatal complications.
The corrected perinatal mortality rate was 19 per 1000 births.
It is concluded that twin pregnancy still accounts for higher incidence of obstetrical complication and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
The perinatal mortality rate in our hospital is comparable to other tertiary care centers.
