Three hundred EEG's for 300 patients, aged one month to 14 years, were reviewed randomly over a period of one year.
Stimulation measures were over-breatliing and photic stimulation.
Chloral hydrate was used as a sedative.
Results: Erom 171 males (57% of the patients) and 12V females (43%) normal records were obtained from I S3 patients (61%) and abnormal records from 117 (39%).
Of fifty four patients with a suspicious history of seizures 29% showed abnormal records and of246 patients with a typical history of seizures 41% showed abnormal records.
Conclusion: The EEG is a very useful diagnostic tool to support the clinical diagnosis of epilepsy.
It aids the classification of an epilepsy, suggests an etiology and helps to formulate a prognosis.
