Abstract EN
With the continued controversy regarding the safety of silicone gel-filled breast implants the plastic surgeon is faced with a growing number of women who are asking for explantation.
We are seeing more and more patients who ask for explantation without replacement of size with implants or reconstruction using autogenous tissue.
Many women have reported increased breast size with ptosis over the years.
Simple removal of the implant in these cases would result in a ptotic, drooping misshaped breast.
1 technique is described to reconstruct the breast by utilizing available breast tissue in certain selected cases.
Thirty patients ranging in age from 32-60 years underwent explantation with reshaping of their breast by this technique.
The follow up period was 8-48 months, none of the patients had major complications.
The breast mound which was achieved during surgery was maintained in all patients.
We found this technique safe, easy to accomplish and, it produces natural looking breasts.
