Abstract EN
Primary ovarian pregnancy is an uncommon form of ectopic pregnancy occurring in less than 3% of all extra-uterine pregnancies.
Awareness of the possibility of ovarian pregnancy and closer histologic examination of surgical specimens are critical factors for increased recognition.
A case of ovarian pregnancy which was diagnosed and treated in Rabat Maternity Hospital (Morocco) in 1994 is reported here.
Introduction: Ovarian pregnancy is one of the rarest types of ectopic pregnancy.
Its incidence is reported to be 1:7000-40000 deliveries and less than 3% of all ectopics(1).
However the true incidence of this problem is unknown because of the failure to detect these gestations early.
The incidence of ovarian pregnancy has increased in the recent years but it is not clear whether this is a real increase in the prevalence or simply a result of better and earlier diagnosis due to the availability of quantitative beta-subunit of HCG estimation, early ultrasound and the use of laparoscopy.
