Abstract EN
We present an unusual hematologic complication of disseminated candidiasis in a previously immunocompetent patient.
The patient was admitted with a severe asthmatic attack that required mechanical ventilation.
Hospital course was complicated by the development of rhabdomyolysis, acute renal failure and pancytopenia.
Hone marrow examination demonstrated marked hemophagocytosis.
The patient died.
Reactive hemophagocytic syndrome associated with Candida infection has been reported rarely.
The case is presented and pertinent literature is reviewed.
