Les personnes de 60 ans et plus dans les pays du Golfe represented la plus recente categonrie de population en accroissenent rapide.

Cette croissance rapide du nombre des personnes ageees a provoque l'emergence de certains problemes geriatriques qui se rapportent entre autres, a 1'alimentation.

Bien que divers facteurs tels que l'heredite, la maladie.

La pollution de l'air et de 1'eau, les medicaments et le tabac aient un impact sur la sante des plus ages, un regime alimentaire etudie et bien equilibre est en mesure de foumir 1'asurance d'une bonne sante.

L'alimentation est pourtant frequemment negligee lors des conseils et traitements prodigues aux vieillards et aux personnes agees en general.

Les personnes agees doivent etree consideees comme des cas particuliers of 1' attention portee a leur regime comme a leur alimentation devrait etre individualisee.

Les auteurs passent brievement en revue les conditiond d'alimentation des personnes agees dans les pays du Golfe en insistant sur les countumes et les facteurs locaux coimcemant cette alimentation.

et decrivent les problemes de sante de sante qui s'y rapportent en tenant compte de ces facteurs et de cet environnement culture!.

Person aged 60 years and older represent the newest and most rapidly growing segment of the Gulf States.

This rapid growth of the elderly population has brought about increasing recognition of geriatric problems, including those related to nutrition.

Although many factors such as heredity, disease, water and air pollution, drugs and tobacco influence the health and longevity of older people, optimum and well balanced dietary intake and nutrition can provide avenue to insure a good health.

Nutrition, however is frequently overlooked in counseling and treating geriatric patients and the elderly in general.

Elderly persons must be considered as unique individuals and their dietary intake, and nutritional care should be individualized.

Authors briefly review the nutritional status of the elderly in the Gulf countries with particular attention to the dietary habits and factors affecting the nutritional status of the elderly in the region, and describe the nutrition related health problems within the present factors and cultural circumstances.
