Rheotherapy or Blood Filtration is a proprietary method of treatment involving a series of therapeutic apheresis treatments.

Therapeutic apheresis is a well documented medical procedure used to filter and purify blood.

It has been used safely and effectively millions of times over the past thirty years.

Rheotherapy gets its name from the medical term hemorheology, which is the science of the relationships between certain disease conditions and blood flow, tissue perfusion and cellular metabolism.

Recent advances in scientists' abilities to study blood circulation in the body's smallest blood vessels (the capillaries) have led Rheologists to a new understanding of the relationships between conditions associated with changes in perfusion that occur with certain diseases, and the body's natural healing response/recovery process.

The article is presented to provide the reader with an introductory overview of Rheotherapy, which is now being applied to the treatment of several macular diseases with an emphasis on Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
