A retrospective study to establish the prevalence ٠/ Helicobacter pylori infection in the Western region ofSaudi Arabia is compared with the results ofseven previous stud-ies.

In the current study of 530 endoscopic gastric biopsies obtained over 14 months, 373 patients were positive histo-logically for H.pylori infection with the ageforpeak infec-tion being ill the fourth decade in both sexes.

Further (le-tads are presented in tabular form.

Comparisons with the other studies at e also tabulated and discussed.

It is COII-eluded that H.

pyloriم'ه،،/»ا« is acquired early in life and is prevalent amongst different age groups, tints callingfor an effective program of therapy and eradication.
