English Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the impact of the entrepreneurs’ characteristics on small business success at Medical Instruments Supplies Organizations in Jordan, by examining the perception of the owners and managers regarding the entrepreneurs’ characteristics profile needed for success.

This study is a descriptive and analytical study.

The population is small business of Medical Instruments Supplies Organizations in Jordan-Amman.

The study surveyed the owners and managers working at these organizations which consist of 66 organizations.

To achieve the purpose of this study, data were collected from 111 out of 150 owners and managers during March-June, 2014, by means of questionnaire.

The questionnaire was developed and refined by literature review and panel of referees committee.

A Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test, Cronbach’s Alpha and factor analysis used to confirm the suitability of the questionnaire as the main tool for data collection.

Statistical techniques such as descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA test, correlation, multiple regressions employed to test the hypotheses.

The study result shows that there is a significant existence of the entrepreneurs’ characteristics.

All variables have high existence with exception of the risk taking propensity which has medium existence.

The experience had the highest existence, followed by need for achievement, self-confidence, independency and responsibility, initiativeness and risk taking propensity, respectively.

The result also shows that there is an impact of the entrepreneurs’ characteristics on the small business success, meanwhile, it shows that “experience” has the highest impact on the small business success, followed by “need for achievement”, then “independency and responsibility”, “risk taking propensity”, “innitiativiness”, and finally “self-confidence” has the lowest impact, respectively.

The study recommends carrying out similar studies on other industries in Jordan and other countries.

It also recommend conducting training courses related to entrepreneurs’ characteristics development, especially, for “risk taking propensity” which shows the lowest existed characteristic.
