Anoil film in water and near staining of the shore within and near the Port Sudan Harbour were observed.
This study was to determine the sources, magnitude and effects of oil pollution.
Water samples were taken monthly, during July, 94 to June, 1995ل from 5 stations to study physicochemical and biological paramters.
The stations were at the Port Sudan Power Plant area ( St.l), the South ^ays in the Harbour ( St.2), the Oil Refinary area (St.3), the discharge point of the Seed Oil Factory (St.
4) & Flaming^) Bay as a Control (St.
5).
Sediment samples were taken from stations (1), (2) and (5) and analysed for oil content and macrofauna ظ flora.
Stations (ل) and (2) were significantly polluted with waste oil frctm the Port Sudan Power Plant and leaking oil form the Oil Terminal and shipping activity in the harbour.
Moreover, the sediment of shallow water at these two stations was loaded with oil and devoid of any macrofauna or flora.
The study recommended immediate action to stop oil dumping into the sea and cleanup of polluted areas.
