Abstract EN

Analyses are presented and accurate computations are made for the radio frequency electromagnetic fields generated by corona currents, flowing along high voltage overhead wires, as generating sources for radio disturbances.

The relation between the magnetic fields (measurable by simple loop antennas) and the electric fields (measurable by probe dipole arrangements) is analyzed and computed, in different locations near to a radiating wire, with existence of ground effects.

The radiating sources are treated as arrays of short dipole segments carrying a travelling wave of the pulsating corona currents, at 0.5 MHz and at 1 MHz.

It is found that the electric noise fields increase faster than the magnetic noise fields at near proximities to the generating source wires; especially around the axes defining the directions of the generating currents.

(This translates to higher intrinsic impedance Z0 nearer to these wires.) Excessive electric field levels are also generated near to corners and short wire connections.

This phenomenon is verified practically.
