This paper studied the efforts of Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (Shams ad-Din Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr a/-ZarcI, d.

751 ah) in applying Qur'anic dyahs to life (Utnzil al-dydt 'ah al-wdq?) as exemplified in the collection of his exegetical views, Hodn'i’ at-Tafsir (The Glories ofTafsir).

Other instances of Ibn al-Qayyim’s application of dyahs to life which have not been mentioned in this book were also traced and included.

In its first part the paper shed light 011 the background of Imam ibn al- Qayyim and his time, the commentators’ care for the issue of applying Quranic dyahs to life, and Ibn al-Qayyim’s rule-making in this field and the overall characteristics of his methodology.

'Hie second part looked deeply into the particular instances in which Ibn al-Qayyim applied the Qur’an to the happenings of his lifetime.

All in all, 56 such instances were studied.
