Effect of active dry yeast as biofertilizer on productive performance of superior grapevines (Vitis vinifera L.)‎

The possibility of replacing the mineral nitrogen application of ‘Superior’ grapevine partially with the active dry yeast biofertilizer was studied during 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Active dry yeast was applied as foliar spraying in mixing with micro-nutrients solution (Zn, Fe, Mn and Cu) twice a year.

Moreover, nitrogen was added as soil appplication at 40, 60 or 80 g vine-1.

Active dry yeast was applied at 0.2 or 0.4%.

The control treatment received 80 g N vine-1 and sprayed also with these micro-nutrients twice a year without using active dry yeast.

Vine growth, leaf chemical composition were determined, moreover, yield and berries quality were also evaluated.

Results showed that, active dry yeast was very effective in improving vine growth, leaf nutrional state (N, P, K, Zn, Fe, Mn and Cu) and also leaf content of total chlorophyll, total free amino acids and total carbohydrates, as well as improved yield and berries quality of ‘Superior’ grapevines.

Foliar spraying of active dry yeast at 0.4% twice a year combined with mineral N at 60 g N vine-1 was very beneficial in improving the growth and productivity of ‘Superior’ grapevines as well as saving about 25% of the nitrogen applied.
