Abstract EN
A low-cost data acquisition system (DAS) built around an IBM PC / XT computer is described.
The system uses a 10-bit successive approximation analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) chip for signal conversion.
The ADC is connected to the computer bus through an 8255A Programmable Peripheral Interface chip.
A computer program written in BASICA and compiled by Microsoft Quick Basic takes care of data acquisition and storage, and plots the acquired spectra on the screen and / or on a pen plotter.
The performance of the DAS is tested using standard gamma ray sources and an Nal detector.
Performance results are described and suggestions for further improvements are presented.
