The available rut depth prediction models are evaluated for local application.
RUT DEPTH, PDMAP, and VESYS are the three prediction models available on the mainframe computer of the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM).
'1’hree road sections were selected in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.
Cores, asphaltic concrete slabs, and subbase materials are collected from these sections.
Dynamic diametral tests were conducted for laboratory character-ization.
Resilient modulus, fatigue, and permanent deformation tests were carried out on Marshall specimens fabricated using the aggregates extracted from the existing pavements.
Laboratory ^aracterization results were used together with the collected environmental data in the VESYS model.
VESYS was found to be the most suitable model for rut depth and pavement performance prediction.
However, VESYS was calibrated for rutting by applying the shift factor concept to the laboratory results.
