Reversed gastric tube is an effective procedure for reconstruction of hypopharynx and cervical oesophagus particularly when resection extends below the thoracic inlet in patients with advanced hypopharyngeal carcinomas.
This study was done to evaluate the morbidity and mortality rates associated with this procedure.
Twelve patient suffering from advanced hypopharyngeal cancers were included in this study at E.N.

Assiut University Hospital.
Reversed gastric tube operation was done for every patients included in this study for reconstruction of the pharyngo-oesophagus.
The overall fistula rate was 33%, and pneumothorax 41%.
The hospital mortality rate was 16.7% and a 6 month follow up period was 2 patients death.
Ultimately, 83% of patients resumed oral feeding.
No stricture was recorded with this procedure.
Reversed gastric tube operation can be done with acceptable morbidity and mortality and provides reasonable resumption of oral intake.
