English Abstract
This quasi experimental study aimed at investigating the effect of a programme based on pictured storybook of children's literature on developing their values, communication and problem solving skills at kindergarten stage.
More specifically, it attempted to answer the following questions: 1.
What are the components of the enriching programme based on pictured storybook of children's literature? 2.
What is the effect of the enriching programme based on pictured storybook of children's literature on developing values of children at the kindergarten stage? 3.
What is the effect of the enriching programme based on pictured storybook of children's literature on developing communication skills of children at the kindergarten stage? 4.
What is the effect of the enriching programme based on pictured storybook of children's literature on developing problem solving skills of children at the kindergarten stage? The sample of the study consisted of two classes, (level two) at "College De La Salle- Frere" kindergarten.
One of the classes was assigned to be the experimental group (31 students) and the second class was assigned as the control group (30 students).
For the purpose of the study the researcher designed two instruments.
A pre –test for measuring the development of values, communication and problem solving skills was administered before starting the study.
After applying the programme that lasted for about 15 weeks, the post – test was re- administered on both groups.
The results of the study revealed that the mean scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than the mean scores of the control group in developing values, communication and problem solving skills.
The findings indicated that the implemented programme based on picture storybook of children's literature had a significantly positive effect on developing values, communication and problem solving skills at kindergarten stage.
Based on the results of the study, further studies were recommended to be carried out seeking more thorough investigation
