Abstract EN

This research deals with the phenomenon of misunderstanding the religious texts in that the misunderstanding of Allah (SWT) and His Prophet (PBUH) is the source of every fabrication and aberration, especially if it was in bad faith – such that what the Kharijites and other sects did was due to the misunderstanding of Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (PBUH).

This research shows that the causes of misunderstanding of religious texts include intolerance of opinion, ignorance of the purposes of Sharia and its laws, failing to follow the path of the forefathers of the people of Sunnah and the Community in understanding Islamic texts, and a flawed approach to the sources of religious science (i.e., staying away from Muslim scholars), and ignorance of religious science.

The correct understanding needs to utilize the mind and develop thinking skills after having mastery of religious sciences and the supporting sciences such as linguistics, foundations of jurisprudence, and foundations of interpretation, and so on.

This also includes referring to scholars and acquiring their knowledge which will help in the correct understanding of the meanings of religious texts and will lead to glory, victory and stability.

Above all, the servant must resort to Allah (SWT) and ask for guidance and understanding.

The correct understanding means being faithful to the intended meaning of the addresser and recognize his goals, which means understanding of Allah SWT and His Messenger, that is, knowledge of the meanings of the words of Allah and His Messenger
