تقييم تراكيز ثلاثة معادن ثقيلة (الكادميوم و الرصاص و النحاس) في الرواسب البحرية من منطقة أبى كماش إلى مدينة طبرق على طول الساحل الليبي، هي أول دراسة لبعض المعادن الثقيلة على طول الساحل الليبي.تم جمع العينات خلال شهر أغسطس 2009 من خمسة عشر موقعا، و كان متوسط التراكيز المقاسة للمعادن الثقيلة على النحو التالي : الكادميوم (0.178-0.374)، متوسط (0.250 ± 0.057)، النحاس (1.16-14.72)، متوسط (4.53 ± 3.72)، الرصاص (3.67-16.91)، متوسط (7.72 ± 3.63) ملجم / كجم وزن جاف.
و بمقارنة النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها و مقارنتها ببعض الدراسات السابقة و مع وكالة حماية البيئة فإن جميع العينات غير ملوثة بهذه المعادن الثقيلة، مستويات المعادن الثقيلة كانت ضمن المعدل الطبيعي لها لكل المواقع موضع الدراسة.
