Investigation into the public perception towards the solid waste management system adopted in Erbil City

Abstract EN

The present study was conducted to identify the perception and attitudes of peoples to on solid waste management System in Erbil city.

To accomplish this, questionnaire consisting of socio-economic data further to15 questions designed and randomly distributed to 84 families from 40 residential various areas of Erbil city.

Data collected and analyzed shows that the domestic solid waste generated in Erbil city during the first half of year 2012 was in average of 0.6 kg/capita/day, which leading to about 1.0 kg/capita/day as a municipal solid waste generation.

Results indicated that 64.3% severity index of the public is satisfied with the current solid waste management system in Erbil city.

Whereas, in comparison of solid waste management adopted in Erbil city with neighborhood countries have only 31.5% severity index at disagree level which indicating the gab of performance in accordance to the public opinion.
