English Abstract
This study focuses on how Western liberal democracies deal with the issue of ethno-cultural diversity present in their societies.
In particular, it offers a contribution to the academic debate between the multiculturalists and their opponents by presenting evidence drawn from the case of the Moroccan community in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands has been among the first states that have adopted officially policies inspired by multiculturalism as a response to the challenges posed by ethno-cultural diversity.
This study provides a historical overview of the process of formation and of the evolution of the Moroccan community in the Netherlands since 1960s.
It argues that the Moroccan community has benefited from the Dutch multiculturalism; on the other hand, this study supports the argument that fears that multiculturalism may encourage the formation of parallel nonintegrated communities are grounded
