English Abstract

Moroccan immigration to France is a phenomenon that has had many effects on both the Moroccan and the French societies.

In recent years, immigration unexpectedly changed from temporary to permanent, thus creating problems for both countries.

One of the most serious problems confronted by immigrants is the schooling of their children.

Several researchers argue that the children of immigrants face more schooling problems than the natives.

This project deals with this issue as lived by the children of Moroccan immigrants in France.

The introduction and part one include a statement of the problem, the research question, the rationale and the method of investigation.

Part two contextualizes the problem by briefly reviewing the history of Moroccan immigration to France, and also by describing the French schooling system.

It also presents a review of the literature that addresses the causes of the schooling problems of the children of immigrants.

Part three describes the measures that have been taken by both Morocco and France to solve the problem, and the factors which hinder successful implementation of these measures.

Finally, the general conclusion attempts to register some recommendations to overcome these impediments.

The research is based mainly upon library investigation, some statistics and official reports.

Moreover, I relied on some field work research conducted among some of my acquaintances living in France.

All these steps allowed me to conclude that the eradication of the schooling problems of these children is not an easy task because some causes of their schooling failure are mainly the result of organizational and cultural factors that require considerable effort from both France and Morocco.
