English Abstract

This study investigates the problem of the lack of running water in Moroccan rural areas.

More exactly, the study deals with the importance of the collaboration between the rural commune, the population and international organisations in providing an area with running water.

For this purpose, the focus is on Ait Ben Attou, a douar near Azrou where the population is suffering from the lack of running water.

The project details problems resulting from the lack of running water and offers as a solution a tentative project for the exploitation of Talba spring.

The study revealed that, the villagers have no running water in the house and that three public drinking fountains are the only source of water in the douar.

There are three reasons for the lack of running water in the douar: the size of the population is small, the rural commune has a deficit in its budget and the existing water supply system is said to be sufficient to provide the villagers with the needed quantity of water.

The present situation of the douar makes it urgent to supply the villagers with running water.

The people I interviewed told me about the health risks that result from the lack of running water, such as catching cold when going out to fetch water, wasting time while waiting for their turn and about the fact that one of the three taps dries up in summer.

These problems lead me to find a solution to the problem and to formulate a potential project to supply Ait Ben Attou with running water.

For this purpose, I have studied a project of water distribution in Ait Amar Ou Ali, a douar situated five kilometres east of Ait Ben Attou, and applied similar steps in Ait Ben Attou.
