English Abstract
Morocco is the third largest tourism market in Africa.
In agreement with the other Mediterranean states, tourism is a top priority.
Morocco’s current tourism policy is geared at increasing bed capacity, developing beach resorts, concentrating on coastal regions, and offering tax advantages to tourism projects.
Morocco operates with a US$17 million promotional budget each year for tourism; however the beds in the hotels remain at an annual capacity rate of 40% and the GDP does not indicate growth.
The incentive and drive exists to improve Moroccan tourism, yet the policies fail to recognize the real source of deficiency.
The problem stems from the lack of demand for Morocco as a tourism destination.
The problem for Morocco is that most tourists either do not know of Morocco as a destination, or they have an inaccurate image of Morocco.
To illustrate, the 21 million American tourists spending $65 billion while traveling are not visiting Morocco.
This research examines the strength and weaknesses of the tourism sector in Morocco and continues by proposing a method in which Morocco can reach this new frontier of American tourists
