English Abstract
US-Venezuelan relations have witnessed a remarkable shift since 1998, when the social revolutionary government of Chavez assumed power.
A multiple-level of analysis approach is used throughout this study to fully explain Venezuela’s strategies towards the US.
The international system, domestic factors and individual-characteristic together contribute to an understanding of not just what but why Venezuela’s foreign policy decisions are made.
Venezuela undertakes various strategies in order to decrease US influence; it sponsors many regional projects in order to help Latin American states integrate as the country aspires for a successful regional integration independent of the US.
It also seeks to develop a network of alliances with other states outside of the region to help create a mulitpolar world order.
