Pseadomonas aeruginosa is a major cause of nosocomial infections, usually in the context of serious underlying disease.
Eighteen clinical isolates of p.
aeruginosa collected from patients suffering from bum infections , in addition to two different hospital environmental samples were analyzed by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA ( RAPD ).
The isolates tested formed nine different RAPD patterns when typed with highest discriminatory power primer OPN-16 , while using the primer DPG-08 eight different genotypes were detected.
The results of this study support the visibility of using such markers for genotyping of p.
aeruginosa in epidemiological studies as well as in the control of nosocomial infections.
