Abstract EN
In traditional buildings there has always been a logical and appropriate sense of scale and design.
In the study of such buildings, we shall find that a basic set of needs is translated physically into a composition of harmony and unity; both an instinct for building and a coherent aesthetic are clearly expressed.
Saudi Arabia has been transformed, in the last couple of decades, from a nomadic culture to an urban living style; in this process of modernization, a wealth of traditions, skills, building form, and styles have been abandoned, and historical associations lost.
The underlying intent of this presentation is the result of great concern with traditional and domiciliary settlements, from the point of view of an environmental designer.
The images presented in the eighteen drawings, here, can take a reader on a visual tour of local and regional traditions in architecture; and the accompanying photographs typify the situation of contemporary residential design.
