Abstract EN

The results of testing a variety of cleanup techniques in salt marshes affected by the 1991 Gulf Oil Spill are presented in this paper.

The results are evaluated as to cleanup effectiveness and their influence on environmental recovery.

Flooding is identified as an effective cleanup technique for recovering stranded oil; however, this cleanup method may contribute to the continued decline of viable above-ground plant biomass.

Removal of the oil soaked algal mat may prove to be an effective method of remediation.
