English Abstract

limit for drinking water, for all samples of both water plants.

On the other hand the TC, FC and E.coli exceeded zero cell/100ml, the allowable limit for drinking water, in many drinking water samples for both water plants with increasing of temperature in summer months.

Physiochemical tests showed that air temperature at sampling time was varied between 10 and 39°C and between 15 and 28°C, for water temperature at sampling time also, while the temperature in the laboratory at examination time ranged between 12 and 21°C.

The results of pH means were within the allowable limit, ranging from 6.97 ± 0.22 in summer to 7.97 ± 0.082 in winter.

For EC, the highest mean value recorded for raw water was in autumn with 1139.3 ± 48.96 μcm/cm, and the lowest value was in spring with 832.0 ± 134.335 μcm/cm, while the highest mean value recorded for Drinking water was in summer with 1141.3 ± 42.9 μcm/cm, and the lowest value was 844.7 ± 110.2 μcm/cm in spring also.

The highest mean value of turbidity recorded for raw water was in winter with 196.67 ± 108.794 NTU and the lowest value was in summer with 9.0 ± 1.32 NTU, while the highest mean value recorded for Drinking water was 14.7 ± 6.32 NTU again in winter and the lowest value was 11.7 ± 0.6 NTU in spring.

The study showed that the results of TSS means was ranged between 0.33 ± 0.12 mg/L in winter and spring and 29.6 ± 5.23 mg/L in summer, while the TDS Summary III mean values ranged from 505.3 ± 58.43 mg/L in spring to 825.7 ± 32.29 mg/L in summer.

The highest mean value of residual chlorine was recorded in autumn with 3.833 ± 0.236 mg/L, the lowest value was ND mg/L in most of the farthest points of the plants.

DO mean values ranged between 4.67 ± 0.84 mg/L in summer and 11.3 ± 0.8 mg/L in winter, and BOD5 mean values ranged between 1.47 ± 0.44 mg/L in autumn and 4.37 ± 0.64 mg/L in summer.

All the recorded values of chloride ions for all water samples were within the allowable limit, its means ranged between 65.3 ± 4.58 mg/L in summer and 105.8 ± 2.3 mg/L in winter.

The values of the TOC exceeded 1 ppm the maximum allowable limit according to Iraqi Criteria and Standards, the highest mean value was 46.7 ± 9.29 ppm in summer and the lowest value was 1.47 ± 0.68 ppm in autumn for raw water, while for drinking water, the highest value was 3.24 ± 0.66 ppm in summer and the lowest was 0.78 ± 0.09 ppm again in autumn.

However the study results showed a rise in the values of TTHMs with the rising of temperatures, free residual chlorine and high proportion of TOC, the values did not exceed 0.15 ppm, the maximum limits according to Iraqi Criteria and Standards of drinking water’s limits, the highest mean value was in summer 0.1 ± 0.01 ppm and the lowest mean value was 0.02 ± 0.01 ppm in autumn.
